Last Wednesday, March 30, the 2022 Fine Arts Medal was awarded to master Alonso Gutiérrez Espinosa for his outstanding artistic career and important plastic work.
The venue for the event was the State Center for Fine Arts and around 200 people attended, including the Secretary of Education, Liborio Vidal Aguilar, who was in charge of presenting the medal to the teacher.
During the ceremony, María Teresa Mézquita Méndez, renowned critic and art historian, gave a reading of a semblance of the artist, which was accompanied by a projection of images of original works and sketches by the artist. A video was then shared with interviews with characters related to the teacher, such as Emilio Vera Granados, the first recipient of the Fine Arts Medal, and a student of Gutiérrez, the visual artist, Alfredo Lugo, who was director of the first Visual Arts Degree in the state (taught at the Instituto Universitario Patria), where the Mtro. Alonso Gutiérrez obtained his title at the age of 74.
After the screenings, the teacher took the floor to give a speech in which he mentioned his career teaching classes at CEBA, part of the history of the institution that he lived through while he was part of it, and the people he met in the process to finally thank the medal.
The evening featured an exhibition of 16 works by the artist Alonso Gutiérrez, mostly landscapes belonging to the Ricardo Ponce Gutiérrez collection, curated by Hartii, and 3 pieces from the Yucatecan Song Museum, including a self-portrait of the artist. Alonso Gutiérrez was accompanied at this event by relatives, colleagues and colleagues, as well as other members of the state's artistic-cultural community.
