The new "Cultural Heritage Battalion" of the National Guard
National | 23 FEB 2024 Por Redacción

The National Guard prepares a special battalion in conjunction with the Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBAL) with the purpose of protecting art, prosecuting illicit trafficking crimes and rescuing Mexican cultural heritage that is illegally outside the country.

INBAL taught courses, workshops and diplomas to train the units of the force destined for the special battalion, with which they were trained in topics of modern, contemporary art, curatorship and cultural heritage. The institution also shared that the courses with which the 130,000 elements of the battalion were trained will be available once the National Art Winery is inaugurated. This is a project that will have 13 buildings where the INBAL collection will be housed.

By law, artists and works recognized as an Artistic Monument must be escorted and safeguarded by military forces. This is part of the obligations of the creation of this unit, as well as the protection of facilities in charge of the Ministry of Culture such as wineries and museums, among others.
