International | 08 DIC 2021 Por Redacción

The Casino dell'aurora, part of the Palavicini-Rospigliosi Palace, built in 1570, has a rich and excellent collection of paintings and frescoes by important masters of painting. Among these, Guido Reni, Velázquez, Rubens, Orazio Gentileschi, Van Dyck and Botticelli.

Estimated at 471 million euros, the palace will be put up for sale with everything and the works that inhabit it, for which even Italian art specialists have made a request to the country's government to acquire it and the works not continue to be owned. private.

Some consider that, due to the importance of the works, they are actually practically priceless, especially the only mural by Caravaggio. This is not considered a fresco because Caravaggio did not actually master or use the fresco technique, so this painting is an oil mural.

According to Francesca Cappelletti, the top expert on the artist, the work was made in 1592, when the first Roman protector of Caravaggio was the owner of the palace, however, this has not been verified because there are no sources that confirm the work as such. fact, with the exception of a text dating from 1672.

The magnificent mural measures 2.75 meters wide and although there are doubts about who commissioned it and the year it dates from, specialists have no doubt that this is the only mural Caravaggio made in his entire career. The painting consists of Jupiter, Pluto and Neptune, the 3 brothers who own the world, contemplating the terrestrial sphere from the sky. Each one can be identified represented by symbols characteristic of each deity, such as Jupiter with the eagle, Neptune with his trident and a horse, while Pluto has his two-pronged scepter and below him is Cerberus.

The property will be auctioned off because the death of Prince Nicolò Boncompagni Ludovisi caused a family feud between the Ludovisi who have owned the palace since the early 17th century. This conflict caused a judge to order the auction of the property for next January 18.
